Jacqui's Visit

I think we figured out I had only ever met my cousin Jacqui when I was about 2 years old...so obviously I don't remember that. She was in town for Uncle Clair's funeral and it was so great to finally meet her. She even came down to Provo to spend Sunday afternoon with us.

Grandpa Doryl's Visit

When my dad came out for my uncle's funeral he got to spend about a week and a half with us. Besides getting to visit with lots of family while he was in town we just got to hang out at home.

Julius and Grandpa

Julius' soccer skills

Grandpa showed him {and me} what milkweeds were and how to blow them...he thought it was so cool.

Trying so hard!

The same thing another day...

Happy kid.

I asked Dad to make wiener schnitzel...the real kind...has nothing to do with the weird fast food place here. I remember requesting dad make this on my birthday a lot growing up. You don't want to make it too often with all that deep frying but it's a yummy treat.

{Wiener Schnitzel: Viennese Schnitzel, as in Vienna, Austria. Thinly pounded veal or pork (we used pork) breaded, fried and delicious}

Uncle Clair's Funeral

My dad came to town very last minute for his brother, my uncle's funeral.

Clair Vermile Draper 1932 ~ 2010
Clair Vermile Draper ended his earthly mission October 4, 2010 and reunited with awaiting family and friends. Clair was born November 7, 1932 in Centerfield, Utah, the son of Vermile and Euphemia Draper, both deceased. After his mother's untimely death, Clair was lovingly raised as a son by his aunt and uncle, Ila and Grant B. Jensen, both deceased. Many devoted family members had a profound impact on Clair, as he was loved and cherished throughout his life. After graduating high school in 1951, Clair began his service in the Air Force. On September 25, 1953, he married Marianne Thomas in the Manti Temple. They were blessed with four children, Stephanie (Alan) Hawkes, Jeffery (Susan) Draper, Craig (Michelle) Draper, and David (Lisa) Draper. Graduating from the University of Utah in 1959, Clair fulfilled his career working for a major pharmaceutical firm. In 1995, Clair and Marianne were called to serve a mission in the England, London South Mission. Clair is now taking his testimony of Jesus Christ to serve another mission. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy as a devoted husband, honored father, beloved grandfather and cherished great-grandfather. How sweet will be our joy when we are all reunited again. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the River Ridge Chapel, 10200 S. 1300 W., South Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday, October 8, 2010, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. So. Jordan Parkway (10600 S.), South Jordan, Utah and on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment Centerfield, Utah. Online condolences atwww.jenkins-soffe.com

A visit with Uncle Clair and Aunt Marianne in April 2009

While my dad was here we borrowed some pictures from Aunt Marianne and Aunt Neva so I could scan them for the family. This one came from Aunt Neva and is the only picture we've come across so far of Dad and all three of his siblings. Great picture.

Peaches and General Conference

October is absolutely my favorite month of the year...it's the perfect month for all things fall. The peaches at Allred Orchards were especially good this year. I think I ate most of these over General Conference weekend...

I also made peach cobbler, peach smoothies and this yummy peach shortbread.
{recipe forwarded to me from my sister Amanda}

And of course we enjoyed relaxing at home and watching LDS General Conference.

Happy Anniversary

Welcome to the 30's Ken!

So I've been waiting for a year and 4 months for Ken to join me in the thirties. Not that it really matters...but it's nice to have some company.

Normally I probably would not post a picture of this cake...but it was too funny. It kind of looks like a Dr. Seus cake or something. I should just say that was the look I was going for. I don't know what happened . I've made this cake before with no problems. Let's blame it on the pregnancy. After I noticed the cake was clearly going to have issues I did another pregnant thing and burned every finger on my right hand by picking up a hot cookie sheet. Like I said we'll call it pregnant brain. This all happened while in the middle of trying to make birthday dinner for Ken and his family and a few of our friends. After the burning of the fingers I was useless in the kitchen...had to keep them in ice water. At that point I just said forget the cake. I had Ken's sister Adri help me contain the damage and dump all the cake and frosting together. It tasted fantastic which is all that really matters right? And Ken couldn't care less about presentation...so Happy 30th Honey!

{I look a little sad huh? Still trying to figure out what went wrong!}

Random September Stuff

I found him on our bed this way...always trying to be like daddy.

With Grandma Grace.

Half of Ken's family was in between places in September/October...which was great for us because we had house guests! I love house guests! His sister Lydia and her daughter Jada were with us for a few weeks which was super fun for Julius because he loves his cousin Jada. Then his mom and sister Adri were with us for a couple weeks while waiting to close on a house. Very fun. Then my dad came to town at the tail end of their stay with us and was here for a week and a half...more fun!
