Vienna Day 3

After driving up into the Vienna Woods we decided to keep driving to a little town called Durnstein.
It's claim to fame is that it's where Richard the Lionheart was held captive in 1100.
The story goes that he was taken captive and no one knew where. His faithful minstral Blondel searched everywhere for him. When he came looking in Durnstein he played Richard's favorite song and Richard heard it from his cell.
The town has all kinds of places named after Richard and Blondel.

It's surrounded by vineyards.

Loved the garden at this little house, and the rooftop garden. Apparently the owner knows about healing herbs etc...and offers some kind of classes. Right up my ally. If I'd been here without kiddos....

Took lots of pictures of houses in this little town. They were so cute. I'd take any of them.

Naomi wanted Rapunzel's tower of course.

We hiked up this street to the mountain and then up to the castle ruins.
Dad's foot was bothering him so he waiting in town while we hiked.

It had some of the prettiest houses with the most inviting outdoor spaces.

 The Danube

The first stop along the hike with a view. I kept taking pictures of the beautiful view all the way up the mountain and it kept getting better and better.

That's the road with the cute houses that we walked up.

After our hike we got dessert at the Hotel Richard Lowenherz (Lionheart)
It was perfect weather, hardly anyone there, beautiful view.
Great day!

One of dad's favorite Austrian desserts. It's vanilla ice cream with hot raspberry sauce.

Julius was in a bad mood so everyone joined in.
